This is the first Vermentino I’ve had to my knowledge so here goes nothing. This particular wine comes from Sardinia, which is interesting in and of itself. I don’t think I’ve ever had wine from Sardinia either. The color is a straw yellow and it has a sweet aroma of grapefruit and honey. The smell reminds me of that nasty Cancao table wine I had from Brazil. That stuff must have had some of the same grapes in the blend. The aroma is much less offensive here though, it’s actually appetizing. The flavor isn’t as sweet as the aroma indicates, it isn’t actually sweet at all, more off-dry I’d say. The flavor is light at first, like a Pinot Grigio, and then gets more intense and acidic toward the finish, which is rather lengthy. It’s an interesting wine, I’ll try more…
