It’s important to shop at a good wine store. I shop at a few in the area and I just tend to get better wines from certain wine stores. Take this wine, it’s an Australian Shiraz which is just a generally safe bet, but this one is just sort of mundane. I blame that on the store as much as anything. You can tell the stores that have proprietors who know wine from the ones that don’t. This wine smells like berries and rubbing alcohol. The flavor has a bit of everything, some fruit, some acidity, a few tannins and a medium-short finish. It’s just too average to be that enjoyable and there are so many good, cheap examples of Australian Shiraz out there that there’s little need to buy this one.
