HRM (His Royal Majesty) Rex-Goliath was apparently a 47 pound rooster that was a primary attraction of the Texas Circus. I learned this from the back of the bottle. Whoever heard of that? Why name a wine after a rooster? I’ve noticed this trend lately toward naming wineries and wines after peculiar things that no one has ever heard of. It makes me want to own a winery so I can name it after something truly esoteric. Whatever the name, the wine is great. It has a deep purple hue that just looks tasty all by itself. It has a rich aroma of pepper and blackberry. The flavor begins slightly sweet and tasting of berries, then it pops into a ton of spice and has a lingering finish. It’s quite heavy on the palate as well, which I like personally. This is a really excellent Shiraz and I'm going to call it an approved Cheap Thrill.
