Name: Sutter Home Sauvignon Blanc
Type: White
Grape: Sauvignon Blanc
Origin: U.S. - California
Year: 2005
Producer: Sutter Home Winery
Price: $4.99

This is the last of the cheap, mass produced white wines that I have in my wine fridge and it's the last I'll buy for a while. I need to forget the cheap whites before I try this again. I like all sorts of wine but these have tested my patience. This is a Sauvignon Blanc from the Sutter Home Family Vineyards label and it is a very pale yellow, almost clear in some lighting conditions. Despite being colder (Sauvignon Blancs need to be served at a lower temperature than Chardonnays, IMHO), it has a punchier nose than the Chardonnay I recently sampled from the same producer. The aroma is like a fleshy apricot. The flavor is weird. It starts out as pretty much nothing, then matures on the palate with citrus notes and a tangy acidity. It's fairly dry and the finish is short. I get only a hint of the mass production chemical flavor, which could be due to the lower temperature, I'll find out as it heats to room temperature. For $4.99, it isn't bad, but just don't take it to be representative of the grape.
