This Sutter Home Merlot is forcing me to question the wisdom of buying more than one variety of wine from a given label at a time. I bought this Merlot, the Chardonnay and the Cab all at once and have systematically regretted each purchase to varying degrees. I think perhaps I don’t like Sutter Home or maybe “Family Vineyard Selection” is a euphemism for “our crappiest wines.” This one smells like cleaning products, has a thin flavor and a mildly tannic finish. Not something I’d serve to MY family, but hey…
