I saw a couple Halloween themed bottles on the shelf at a state liquor store in New Hampshire so I grabbed them immediately. This is a Pinot Grigio from Romania, you heard me, Romania. It says “a Transylvania import” right on the label. Since it’s October I thought a review of those two bottles was in order. The tag line on the back of the bottle is “sip the blood of the vine,” and it has a poem by Lord Byron talking about vampires. All of which I also think is pretty cool. The aroma is apples and pears with a faint hint of basil or some other common herb that I can’t put my finger on. The flavor is fairly dry and has some nice citrus fruit. The flavor matures with some acidity that puts a nice little punch on the end. I thought a wine from Romania wouldn’t have a chance in the quality department but this is surprisingly decent.
