I found a new table wine at the Wine Society in Nashua, NH. It is 100% Tempranillo and I’ve had some good luck with that grape lately so I gave it a whirl. Nice purplish color and a mild aroma of berries. As soon as it hits your tongue you can tell that it is bone dry, like it’s sucking the moisture right out of your mouth. It rolls through with some spice and noticeable tannins. It’s pretty good but not a wine I’d drink regularly because I just don’t like them this dry.

Buy a bottle of Mano a Mano 2004 Tempranillo

The aroma is distinctly rubbing alcohol. Swirling the glass gives a burst of fruit though and the flavor is interesting. It’s fairly balanced, a little spicy and it has a rather lengthy finish. All in all, I think it’s one of the better Tempranillos I’ve had.

Pinot Noir-ish in color, this Spanish wine has an almost pungent aroma that is similar to a good Shiraz. The label says cherry and spice and that about describes the aroma. The flavor is also slightly spicy and it has the character of a breath mint. It’s like the flavor wafts around your mouth but isn’t specific until you swallow it. Then you get the tannins and dark berry flavors on the finish. This is a very interesting wine for $9.
